Below are a number of frequently asked questions and their answers.
Can we apply from outside the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man?
No, we are restricted to offering grants to churches within the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Can a grant go towards the cost of fixtures and fittings?
Yes, you can apply for a grant to towards the cost of fixtures and fittings if this is part of the overall project and aligns with the aims of the trust.
Do you support restoration-only projects?
If you are looking for support for restoration costs only, this very much depends on the overall project aim and the long terms viability of the project.
Our project benefits the wider community, but is unlikely to increase our congregation. Can we still apply?
If you project benefits the wider community but is unlikely to increase your actual congregation, you can still apply, providing the overall aims of the trust are met.
Do you support external works projects?
Our grants do not support external works to church grounds, unless the outside works are restricted to access to the church only (i.e., entrance, ramp etc).
Can we apply without audited accounts?
If you do not have audited accounts, you can still apply, providing you are able to submit internal accounts.
How current do quotes within our application have to be?
We understand that supporting quotes are often the first part of any project outline. However, our preference is that quotes are no older than 9 months at point of application.
Must all applications include a completed application form?
Yes; we are unable to accept applications without a fully-completed application form, even if you have already submitted all the documents required as part of your application.
Why are application deadlines always at 10:00am?
Our internal processes are timebound to ensure that all applications can be considered.
Are we able to apply for part-funding of a larger project?
If your project s delivered in defined and stand alone phases which are below £1M, we may still be able to consider your applicaion. In such cases a single phase application can be submitted.
We are a Christian School. Can we apply for a grant?
No, any such application would be considered out of scope.
Do your grants cover congregational items?
We are not able to offer funding for consumables and household items such as books, crockery and cutlery. However, we would consider a grant application for display screens and audio equipment, depending on the overall aims of the project.
Can we apply to fund a Spiritual Garden?
No, any such application would be considered out of scope.
Do you offer grants to support separate buildings to house prayer groups?
We are not able to consider funding for the purchase of buildings but would consider an application for renovation after the purchase of the building has been completed and ownership can be confirmed; again pending the overall aims of the project.
Can we claim our grant in multiple parts?
No, the grant claim form must show the full amount of the grant approved. Upon approval, one payment will be made directly into the church bank account.
Our project has changed considerably; are we still able to claim our approved grant?
If the project bears little resemblance to that outlined within the original application form, a reapplication may be required. It is therefore important that you keep us informed of major project changes.
Can we extend our claim period if our project cannot be completed within 2 years?
If you are not able to complete your project within the specified 2-year period, we generally do not offer extensions and would most likely require a new application.
How soon can we apply again, following a grant award?
Another application cannot be submitted until a period of 2 years has passed from the original grant approval date. For instance, if your grant was awarded 18 months ago but you have only recently claimed this, you cannot apply again within this two year period.
Can I submit my application and documents via post?
No, we accept applications and support documents via email only.
I have just submitted my claim; when will payment be made?
Grant payments are usually made directly into the church bank account by the 5th working day of each calendar month.
We have started our project; can we still apply for a grant?
No, consideration will only be given to projects which have not yet commenced at point of submitting the application.
Our church is part of a circle; do I need individual accounts to apply?
Yes, the application must be supported by accounts (internal if necessary) relevant to the applicant only.
