The Trust was established in 1956 as the charitable arm of the Congregational and General Insurance Company. In 1987 it was re-formed as a separate entity, but still linked to the company. In 2016 the Trust became independent of the Insurance Company.
The majority of the Congregational Churches in England and Wales became part of the newly formed United Reformed Church in 1972; they were later joined by the Scottish Congregational churches. Hence our emphasis on giving grants to United Reformed, as well as Congregational, churches. We do, however, welcome applications from churches of other Protestant denominations or affiliation.
Our History
The trustees are collectively responsible for the management of the Trust and for all grant related decisions.
Our Trustees
We currently have 3 volunteer vacancies on our board of trustees and would love to hear from you if you feel you could add value to our aims and objectives.
Meeting 4 times per year in Leeds (March, June, September and December), we ensure that the trust is run effectively as well as reviewing and determining grant applications to support Christian faith churches, particularly URC and Congregational, in their congregational development.
All grant applications received during each quarter are distributed amongst the trustees prior to each meeting to review and recommend appropriate action to guide and support the final collective decision making process during the meetings.
We are particular keen to hear from you if you have a financial and/or business background. For more information or how to apply please email us at
